MIZ was founded in 1969 according to directives from the Federal German Ministry of Defense. It was intended to provide the Federal German Navy with technical and logistical support to facilitate the smooth operation of their weapon systems, mainly those which have  been provided by the United States of America.

The founding companies at that time were businesses involved in the development and procurement of military equipment. Nowadays, the company is in private ownership. The firm's head office is in Wilhelmshaven and there is one branch in Rostock.

The most important assets of MIZ are the employees with their logistical know-how and comprehensive knowledge in maritime technology.

This expertise is at the disposal of all satisfied customers of MIZ, specifically the Federal German Navybut also firms involved in the procurement of military material as well as naval forces in foreign countries.

The MIZ Services GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1999. It is the central point for all activities of the MIZ group in the non-military market and has assimilated all know-how collected by MIZ personnel in the civilian industry since 1982.

The main sphere of activity of MIZ Services is technical documentation and design for the aircraft industry.

Approximately 80 employees, engineers and technical staff are located in Rostock (head office), Wilhelmshaven, Bremen and  Hamburg.

MIZ International Logistics GmbH (MIL), founded in 1999, is a specialist in procuring difficult spare parts and in repair orders especially in the maritime sector. Its range of activities comprises from washers to complete engines (even with an older year of manufacture).

The principal part of the business deals with the export sector. Therefore, the company is represented by agents in several countries of the Middle East as well as in South and South-East-Asia. MIL will also extend its activities to Latin America.

The MIZ Engineering GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2008 as part of the MIZ group.

The services of the company are both at the headquarters at Rostock - Roggentin as well as on site with the respective customer.

The scope of the engineering services ranges from initial consultation to project managment and interim management.
