The Origin of MIZ
The MIZ GmbH was founded in 1969 according to directives from the Federal German Minister of Defense. It was intended to provide the Federal German Navy ( FGN ) with technical and logistical support to facilitate the smooth operation of their complex weapons systems, specifically those of American origin.
Founding companies at that time were
• MTG Marinetechnik GmbH and
• MBB Messerschmitt - Bölkow - Blohm GmbH.
The technical knowledge and logistical know-how in the field of maritime technology was applied by MIZ for the development of procedures and directives, adequate for use by FGN facilities. Early on, good relations and excellent cooperation with US companies and entities of military administration were established and developed.
MIZ established an extensive potential for logistical knowledge and experience which has been used not only to the benefit of the original military sphere of activity, but also in support of civilian customers.
The MIZ employees work in a disciplined, economical way, keeping costs of performance as low as possible. Long term cooperation with industrial companies, hospitals and other health care institutions, as well as government administration agencies has established MIZ's reputation as an acknowledged partner for consulting and other services in the field of logistics engineering.
The Future
The technical documentation required for the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems is increasingly compiled and organized using modern information technology, referred to as Interactive Electronic Technical Documentation (IETD). This system helps to keep all data and documents updated, thus improving the up-to-date-status of all related information material and reducing life cycle cost.
IETP-X is the XML-based Interactive Electronical Technical Documentation / Publication system. In the databases of the Federal Armed Forces of Germany, this specification is used as the browser component to display data modules according to the standard of ASD S1000 D, based on the Organizational Technical Requirements as laid out in OTF1261.
MIZ has extensive knowledge and experience in developing ASD S1000 D -publications for all different services of the Federal Armed Forces of Germany. In a multitude of projects we have developed and provided data modules for frigate and submarine equipment, for the internal power distribution system on F 122 class, for MCCIS on F 124 class ships, and for the VLS MK 41 system.
We are well familiar with the applicable national specifications and procurement guidelines for ASD S2000 M publications and the respective "National Style Guides".
In the field of IETD, our scope of activities encompasses the development of Guidance Documents and documentation specifications.
Besides our consulting activities, we also provide documentation and data packages for operation and maintenance of military equipment, for example technical manuals, maintenance instructions, spare parts catalogues and schematic diagrams for the support of operation and damage control of systems and their components. Respective training courses and programs are provided upon request.
